Bio
Recruited from North Adelaide, David Robertson was a pacy, hard-running on-baller whose transition to the VFL was defined by a high-stakes clearance dispute. A key figure in the SANFL who had played in two Grand Final losses, he controversially sat out the entire 1987 season to force a move to Collingwood, a decision that cost him a premiership medallion with the Roosters. Upon finally joining the Magpies in 1988, he featured in finals action during both of his seasons at Victoria Park before shifting to country football with Euroa. His AFL career received a lifeline when Essendon selected him in the 1990 Mid-Season Draft, and while he could not cement a regular senior spot at Windy Hill, he proved his quality by winning the club's Reserves Best and Fairest award in 1991.
