Drafted from the Calder Cannons after winning the Morrish Medal, Fijian-born David Rodan burst onto the scene at Richmond as an electric small midfielder. While he quickly became a fan favourite for his energy, his tenure at Punt Road was marred by a serious knee injury that saw him miss the entire 2005 season. Consequently delisted by the Tigers due to durability concerns, he was thrown a lifeline by Port Adelaide with the final pick of the 2006 National Draft, a move that revitalised his career.

Rodan became a pivotal figure in the Power's engine room, renowned for his low centre of gravity and an evasive sidestep that allowed him to dance out of heavy traffic. He played a significant role in Port Adelaide's charge to the 2007 Grand Final, though his resilience was tested again by further ACL ruptures. Rodan notably became a pioneer for LARS surgery, returning to the field in record time to extend his playing days. He finished his career with a single season at Melbourne in 2013, retiring as a highly respected figure who overcame significant injury setbacks to play 185 games.
