Bio
Recruited from VFA club Springvale, David Stirling was a lightly-built half-forward and wingman who joined the Sydney Swans during their pioneering early era in the Harbour City. A nagging hamstring injury delayed his start to the 1983 season, but he eventually debuted in Round 11 against Footscray at the SCG. Stirling showed an eye for goal as a running flanker, booting five majors in seven appearances that year, yet he found himself on the fringe of selection and did not add to his game tally over the next two seasons. He was later listed by Footscray in 1987, but he could not break into the senior side at the Western Oval, leaving his VFL career confined to that single active stint with the Swans.
