Bio
Recruited from Babinda in Far North Queensland, David Strooper was a dangerous half-forward who began his career with Fitzroy in the late 1980s. He spent five seasons with the Lions, establishing himself as a regular goalkicker who could present as a marking target or crumb off the pack. Strooper was traded to the Sydney Swans prior to the 1992 season as the club sought experienced bodies, but he found limited opportunities in the Harbour City, managing just 14 games over two years. He was thrown a final AFL lifeline by St Kilda in 1994, adding depth to their forward line for one season before retiring. While he never quite reached star status, Strooper was a capable journeyman who maintained a better than a goal-a-game average across his three-club tenure.
