Bio
Arriving in the VFL with a sterling reputation as a Best and Fairest winner from SANFL club South Adelaide, David Young was a classy recruit who made an immediate impact for South Melbourne in 1977. He wasted no time displaying his goal-kicking prowess, booting a bag of six in just his third senior game against Fitzroy, and quickly established himself as a dangerous option near the big sticks. After three seasons at the Lakeside Oval, Young crossed to Collingwood during 1979, adding polish to the Magpies' midfield and forward rotations. He featured in the club's 1980 Grand Final side against Richmond, lining up in a forward pocket, but his stint at Victoria Park was marred by persistent fitness issues. Ultimately, a debilitating Achilles injury cut his career short, forcing the talented interstate recruit into retirement after just 62 games at the top level.
