Bio
Recruited from Melbourne's reserves, Dean Chapman arrived at the Junction Oval seeking senior opportunities that were scarce at the powerhouse Demons. Standing 182cm, he was a solidly built teenager who made his debut for the Saints at just 17 years of age in 1948. Despite his physical maturity, Chapman found it difficult to command a regular spot in the senior lineup, managing sporadic appearances as a utility across four seasons during a lean era for the club. After 17 games in the red, white and black, he sought a fresh start with South Melbourne in 1952 but ultimately continued his career in the VFA with Prahran before venturing to the Riverina to captain-coach Coolamon.
