Bio
Recruited from East Perth via the rookie list, Dean Cox transformed the expectations of his position to become one of the most influential ruckmen in AFL history. Initially overlooked by recruiters due to concerns over his endurance, he developed an unparalleled work rate that allowed him to operate as a "fourth midfielder," gathering disposals, executing kick-ins, and taking marks around the ground with the proficiency of a smaller player.
A key architect of West Coast's mid-2000s dominance, Cox provided silver service to his midfield brigade during the 2006 premiership campaign and claimed the club champion award in 2008. He earned six All-Australian blazers and retired as the Eagles' games record holder, setting a new benchmark for athleticism and skill among big men that redefined how the ruck role was played.
