Bio
Originally a Gold Coast junior who made his name in South Australia, Dean Howard was a hard-edged midfielder recruited from West Adelaide via the 1999 rookie list. Known for his "wrecking ball" approach and uncompromising physical aggression at the contest, he was elevated to the senior squad midway through the 1999 season as the reigning premiers looked to inject some steel into their lineup. Howard made his debut against Essendon in Round 10 and held his spot for a road trip to Fremantle the following week, but the Crows suffered losses in both matches during a difficult premiership-hangover year. Unable to secure a long-term position in Malcolm Blight’s side, he was delisted at the end of the season and returned to the SANFL, where he became a decorated 100-game player for the Bloods and later represented North Adelaide.
