Bio
Recruited from Perth in the WAFL with pick 48 in the 2012 National Draft, Dean Kent established himself as an explosive medium forward known for his blistering speed, aggressive tackling pressure, and a booming left-foot kick. During his six seasons at Melbourne, he showed flashes of genuine match-winning ability, particularly in 2016 when he booted a career-high 25 goals. However, a series of soft tissue injuries and inconsistent form often interrupted his momentum, and he eventually found himself on the fringes of the Demons' selection as the team pushed towards finals contention.
Seeking greater playing opportunities, Kent was traded to St Kilda ahead of the 2019 season. He added valuable hardness and experience to the Saints' forward mix, often playing a high-intensity role that created chances for others. Despite continuing to battle injury setbacks, including significant quad and knee issues, his persistence allowed him to reach the 100-game milestone in his final match in Round 23, 2022. He retired at the end of that season, remembered as a powerful athlete who battled his body to maximise his time at the elite level.
