Honours

Recruited from East Reservoir, Denis Banks joined Collingwood as a fearless utility capable of impacting the game at either end of the ground. Establishing himself in the senior side in 1979, he built a reputation for unwavering courage and a willingness to put his body on the line, traits that endeared him to the Magpie Army but often resulted in significant injuries. While possessing the skills to operate effectively as a medium forward or tight-checking defender, Banks is often defined by his sacrificial commitment to the contest, epitomised by a courageous mark running back with the flight of the ball against Footscray in 1984.

A constant physical presence throughout the 1980s, Banks was a vital component of the team's structure during a pivotal era for the club. His resilience was rewarded in the twilight of his career when he played a key role in the historic 1990 premiership side, helping to end Collingwood's 32-year flag drought. He retired in 1991 as a one-club player, leaving a legacy as a tough, uncompromising competitor who played his best football when the stakes were highest.
