Bio
Recruited from Creswick, Denis "Dinny" Heagney holds a unique place in Geelong history as a premiership player whose entire VFL career spanned just six matches. A solid follower who initially served as captain-coach of the Geelong reserves, he was called up to the senior side late in the 1925 season to cover a sudden crisis of injuries and suspensions that threatened the club's finals campaign. Heagney answered the call with aplomb, retaining his place to play in the historic Grand Final victory over Collingwood in only his fourth senior appearance. Despite proving himself on the biggest stage, his fairy-tale run was effectively ended by an injury early in 1926, cementing his legacy as an obscure yet vital contributor to the club's maiden VFL flag.
