Recruited from Kew Amateurs, Dennis Jenkins was a sturdy defender who provided depth for Hawthorn during the early stages of the club's resurgence under John Kennedy Snr. Standing at 183cm, Jenkins possessed the size to play key defensive roles or flank positions, often tasked with nullifying opposition forwards rather than generating drive himself. He made his debut in the 1967 season, a transitional year that saw Kennedy return to Glenferrie Oval to instil the discipline that would later define the "Commandos" era. Despite managing 12 senior appearances over two seasons, Jenkins struggled to cement a permanent spot in a backline that was beginning to feature emerging premiership stars. He left the VFL scene at the end of 1968, having played a minor but serviceable role in the Hawks' rebuild.
