Bio
Recruited from the Murray Bushrangers with pick 54 in the 1998 National Draft, Derek Murray was a pacy small forward and midfielder who arrived at Alberton just as Port Adelaide began its ascent up the AFL ladder. He made his debut in 1999, utilizing his speed and crumbing ability to press for selection, but found it difficult to cement a permanent position in a side rapidly developing into a premiership powerhouse under Mark Williams. Facing intense competition for spots against a deepening list of elite midfielders and forwards, Murray played sporadic senior football throughout his tenure. He ultimately managed 23 games across four seasons before being delisted at the conclusion of the 2002 season.
