Stats
Bio
Recruited from the local Albert Park side, Des Barry was a sturdy utility who made an immediate impact by breaking into the South Melbourne lineup for the opening round of the 1955 season. Standing 180cm and weighing 83kg, he possessed a ready-made frame for VFL football and held his place in the senior side for the first six consecutive matches of the year. His run in the team was interrupted by a significant two-month mid-season absence, and although he fought his way back for two appearances late in the year, he was unable to consolidate a long-term position. Barry's league career remained confined to that single season, departing the club with eight senior games in the red and white.
