Bio
Recruited from Coleraine in western Victoria, Des Field was a solid utility player who earned a brief opportunity at VFL level as an 18-year-old. He arrived at Victoria Park during the 1960 season, a year in which the Magpies were a dominant force on their way to a Grand Final appearance. Field made his debut in Round 6 and held his spot for the following week's clash against North Melbourne, but found it difficult to displace established stars in a strong lineup. He finished his senior career with just the two games, a young country recruit unable to secure a permanent role in a premiership-contending side.
