Bio
Recruited from Warrnambool, Des Herbert arrived at Victoria Park as a promising country recruit but found it difficult to cement a regular spot in a strong Collingwood lineup during the early 1980s. Primarily operating as a wingman or half-forward, he managed 11 senior games over two seasons with the Magpies before crossing to Fitzroy in 1982 in search of greater opportunities. Herbert added another 11 games and seven goals to his tally with the Lions, effectively replicating his output from his time at Collingwood. Unable to break out of the fringe player mould at the Junction Oval, he departed the VFL scene following the 1983 season with a perfectly symmetrical career record of 11 matches for each of his two clubs.
