Bio
Des Meadowcroft was a teenage recruit who earned a brief trial with Carlton during the fledgling years of the VFL competition. Debuting just weeks after his 18th birthday in the 1898 season, he joined a Navy Blues outfit that was struggling to establish consistency in the league's second year. Meadowcroft managed just two senior appearances without registering a goal, acting as a depth player in a lineup that was frequently shuffled as the club searched for a winning formula. His short-lived career remains a snapshot of the era's fluid list management, where young hopefuls were often given a fleeting taste of senior football before returning to the local leagues.
