Bio
Des Pickett was a true local product of the St Kilda district, notable for living in the same Elwood house he was born in for almost his entire life. Recruited from the local metropolitan zone, he entered the VFL shortly after World War II, making his debut in 1946. Standing 179cm with a sturdy frame, Pickett was a utility player capable of filling roles in defence or pushing forward when required. His career was frequently interrupted by injuries and the challenge of holding a spot in the senior lineup, restricting him to sporadic appearances across five seasons during a lean era for the club. He played his final game in 1950, remaining a staunch St Kilda supporter and community figure until his passing.
