Honours

Recruited from the Geelong Falcons, Devon Smith was a foundation player for Greater Western Sydney, selected with pick 21 in the 2011 National Draft. He quickly established himself as a dangerous small forward during the Giants' formative years, demonstrating an ability to find the goals while providing distinct defensive pressure. Despite being a regular member of the Giants' best 22, Smith sought a fresh start and greater midfield opportunities, requesting a trade to Essendon following the 2017 season.

The move proved immediately vindicated as Smith produced a career-best campaign for the Bombers in 2018. Transitioning into a high-impact midfield role, he broke the league record for tackles in a home-and-away season and won the Crichton Medal as the club's best and fairest. A tenacious competitor known for his aggression and relentless work rate, Smith's playstyle often set the intensity standard for his teammates. Unfortunately, the chronic knee injuries that had nagged him earlier in his career returned to plague his final years at Tullamarine, eventually forcing him to retire at the end of 2022.
