Stats
Bio
Recruited from Maryborough after serving with the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II, Dick Bryar was a forward and centreman who briefly broke into a powerful Essendon lineup in the late 1940s. He made his debut in Round 8 of the 1948 season and played three senior matches in a year where the Bombers finished as minor premiers and contested the famous drawn Grand Final against Melbourne. Despite the team winning all three matches he appeared in—victories over North Melbourne, Carlton, and Geelong—Bryar was unable to cement a permanent spot in a star-studded side featuring legends like Dick Reynolds and Bill Hutchison. He left Windy Hill at the end of the season to continue his career in the VFA with Coburg before later playing for Drysdale.
