Stats
Bio
Hailing from Rutherglen, Dick Fitzgerald was a tall recruit brought to the city from the Lake Rovers in the Ovens and Murray Football League. Standing 187cm and weighing nearly 90kg, he offered a significant physical presence for the era and immediately broke into the South Melbourne lineup for the opening of the 1913 season. Fitzgerald featured in consecutive victories against St Kilda and Richmond in Rounds 1 and 2, but he was unable to hold his spot in a powerful squad that would eventually reach that year's Grand Final. His VFL career was limited to that solitary fortnight of football, after which he returned to the bush and became a stalwart for country clubs including Wangaratta and Albury.
