Bio
A true blueblood of the Carlton Football Club, Dick Gill was the son of former captain and premiership defender Frank Gill. Rising through the ranks at Princes Park, he tasted success in the Under-19s before making his senior debut in Round 5, 1953—a match infamous for a "wild brawl" against St Kilda that required mounted police to restore order. Stationed at full-back like his father, Gill played eight senior games that season but found himself squeezed out of the lineup, ultimately featuring in the reserves' premiership victory over Essendon later that year. Despite his pedigree and promise, he surprisingly departed the club at just 21 years of age to join Coburg in the VFA, leaving the continuation of the family legacy to his cousins John and Barry in later decades.
