Bio
Recruited from local side Leopold, Dick Mullaly was a mainstay in the South Melbourne midfield throughout the 1910s. Operating primarily as a centreman, he played a pivotal role in the club’s engine room during a window of contention that included Grand Final appearances in 1912 and 1914, unfortunately falling short on both occasions. While his playing days were marked by consistency rather than silverware, his impact on the club’s history was cemented off the field. As a long-serving club secretary post-retirement, Mullaly was the architect of the famous "Foreign Legion" recruiting drive, aggressively targeting interstate talent in the early 1930s to build the list that finally delivered the 1933 premiership.
