Bio
Recruited from Maffra in Gippsland, Dick Pollard arrived at Footscray in 1934 as a country prospect of significant promise, generating early excitement at the Western Oval. A gifted all-round athlete who was also an accomplished cricketer, he slotted immediately into the senior lineup, playing 16 games in his debut season and proving to be a capable forward option. Despite averaging nearly a goal a game, his VFL tenure was brief; he departed after just two seasons to return to Maffra, where he re-established himself as a local champion before serving in the Australian Army during the Second World War.
