Bio
Recruited from local club Chilwell in the Geelong and District Football Association, Dick Stokes arrived at Corio Oval in 1915 alongside future club legend Cliff Rankin. He made his debut against Richmond and quickly established himself as a regular feature in the senior side, playing nine games in his maiden season. However, his career was severely disrupted by the First World War, which saw Geelong withdraw from the VFL competition for the entire 1916 season due to a shortage of players and patriotic sentiment. When the club rejoined the league in 1917, Stokes returned to add three final appearances to his tally before departing the top level, his brief tenure standing as a snapshot of the difficult transitional period the league faced during the war years.
