Stats
Bio
Recruited from Nar Nar Goon after a best-on-ground performance in the 1930 Central Gippsland premiership decider, Dinny Dowd was a tall, robust follower and defender who made an immediate impact at Fitzroy. He played 15 games in his debut season, using his 183cm frame to compete effectively in the air and at ground level, but his VFL tenure became transient the following year. Dowd transferred to South Melbourne (now Sydney) for the 1932 season, yet his time at the Lakeside Oval was short-lived; he eventually completed a rare three-club tour by finishing the year with North Melbourne to reach his career tally of 19 games. A true country football servant, Dowd returned to the bush to win a league best and fairest and later served as president of the Corowa Football Club, leaving a legacy as a talented player who never quite settled in the city.
