Bio
Selected with the third overall pick in the 2011 National Draft, Dom Tyson began his career as a foundational player for Greater Western Sydney. While he showed immediate promise as a ball-magnet, he sought a return to Victoria after just two seasons, facilitating a high-profile trade to Melbourne that saw the Demons exchange the second overall draft pick to secure his services. Tyson made an immediate impact at his new club, finishing runner-up in the best and fairest in 2014 and establishing himself as a consistent clearance winner during a difficult period for the Demons.
A prolific left-footed inside midfielder, Tyson was best known for his clean hands in traffic and ability to extract the ball from stoppages. However, as Melbourne developed a deeper midfield rotation featuring explosive talent like Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca, Tyson's lack of elite pace and occasional disposal errors saw him squeezed out of the best 22. Seeking greater opportunity, he was traded to North Melbourne at the end of 2018 but struggled to recapture his best form at Arden Street. Plagued by persistent calf injuries and unable to cement a spot in the senior side, he managed just six games across three seasons for the Kangaroos before being delisted at the conclusion of 2021.
