Bio
Dominic Fotia holds a unique place in history as Carlton’s first-ever selection in the inaugural National Draft, taken with pick 12 in 1986. Recruited from West Torrens in the SANFL, the teenage rover opted to remain in South Australia to develop his senior game before finally arriving at Princes Park for the 1989 season. Upon arrival, he was handed the prestigious number 2 guernsey—previously worn by club legend John Nicholls—which placed immediate expectation on the youngster's shoulders. A skilled and pacy small man capable of drifting forward, Fotia showed flashes of genuine class, most notably during a best-on-ground performance against Melbourne in 1990 where he gathered 23 disposals and three Brownlow votes. However, he struggled to consistently displace established midfielders like Adrian Gleeson and Fraser Murphy in a competitive Blues engine room. After managing just 18 senior appearances over his tenure, he departed the AFL to play in the VFA with Coburg and Werribee before eventually returning to South Australian local football.
