Bio
Recruited to South Melbourne from Koroit via Melbourne High School, Don Brookes entered the VFL as a 17-year-old prospect during the 1968 season. Donning the number 1 guernsey, the 185cm utility demonstrated a surprising ability to find the football for his age, most notably recording 25 disposals in a loss to Essendon at the Lake Oval. While his height and ball-winning traits suggested a promising future as a versatile flanker, his top-flight career was confined to a single winter. Brookes played just six games for the Swans before disappearing from the VFL landscape, leaving behind a brief but statistical glimpse of potential.
