Stats
Bio
Recruited from Crib Point on the Mornington Peninsula, Don Calder was a solidly built player who provided depth to the Carlton squad during the early 1950s. Standing 185cm and weighing 90kg, he possessed the physical attributes of a key position prospect but struggled to command a regular senior spot, often drifting in and out of the side as the 19th man. While his opportunities at the top level were sporadic, Calder established himself as a respected leader at Princes Park, serving as vice-captain of the 1951 reserves premiership team and captaining the seconds to another flag in 1953. Unable to break into the senior lineup permanently, he departed the Blues at the end of that season to accept a position as captain-coach of Wodonga in the Ovens & Murray Football League.
