Bio
Don Dilks was a mature-age recruit who arrived at the Western Oval from local club Spotswood Citizens. Making his debut in 1937 at the age of 25, he was introduced as a half-forward who could impact the contest in the front half of the ground. Despite his senior VFL career being restricted to just a handful of appearances, Dilks made an outsized impression in his debut season, showing enough potential to be selected in The Argus newspaper’s "Best First-Year Players" team of 1937. He was unable to consolidate that early promise into a long-term tenure, adding only a few more games the following year before drifting out of the league. He later maintained a strong connection to elite football through his marriage into the Deller family, a dynasty synonymous with Williamstown in the VFA.
