Bio
Recruited from Bairnsdale in regional Victoria, Don Hammond joined Fitzroy for the 1945 season, arriving at the club just as they were celebrating their 1944 premiership victory. Standing 183cm, he possessed the height to play as a key position utility or follower, but he faced the formidable challenge of breaking into a settled, title-winning lineup. He made his debut midway through the year and managed five senior appearances for the 'Roys, often filling in where needed in a side that was still highly competitive. Unable to cement a permanent spot in the strong Fitzroy outfit, his VFL career was confined to that single season.
