Stats
Bio
Recruited from Burnley, Don Harris was a stylish and fearless defender who endured a heartbreaking run of near-misses during his VFL career. Establishing himself in Richmond's back pocket, he played in three consecutive Grand Final defeats between 1927 and 1929, each time falling short against the legendary Collingwood "Machine." After a bitter dispute with the Tigers' committee over his long-service certificate and job security, he controversially crossed to the Magpies in 1931. While he immediately solidified his spot in the senior side and polled well in the Brownlow Medal, he joined the club just as their four-year premiership streak ended. Harris played in finals in both his seasons at Victoria Park but never captured the ultimate prize, eventually retiring for business reasons to coach Kew in the amateurs.
