Bio
A sturdy follower and defender from Parkside, Don Henderson’s football career was inextricably linked to his service as a Leading Aircraftman in the RAAF during World War II. Before debuting for Footscray, he built a reputation in South Australia’s wartime patriotic league, where he famously led the ruck for the combined Norwood-North side in their 1943 premiership victory. Standing 183cm, he offered valuable height and versatility to the Bulldogs in 1944, capable of competing in the air or plugging gaps in defence. While his time at the Western Oval was restricted to a single season of 11 games, Henderson served as a dependable depth player during a turbulent era when military duties frequently dictated team selection.
