Bio
A Bassendean local and key figure in Swan Districts' dominant early-1980s era, Don Holmes joined the West Coast Eagles as a mature-age recruit for their inaugural 1987 campaign. Having already secured a hat-trick of WAFL flags, the sharp-shooting forward was brought in to provide experienced support in attack for the new national side, where he operated effectively from the pocket and half-forward flank. He proved a reliable avenue to goal during the Eagles' foundation years, averaging nearly two majors a game before finding himself squeezed out of the expanding list. Holmes returned to the WAFL to bookend his career in perfect fashion, playing in a fourth premiership with Swan Districts in 1990 to cement his legacy as a club great.
