Bio
Recruited from the powerhouse Northcote VFA side, Don Howard was a diminutive footballer who experienced a brief VFL career in the late 1930s. Standing just 171cm, he made a solitary senior appearance for Essendon in 1937—sharing the field with Brownlow Medallist Dick Reynolds—but could not retain his place in the Bombers' lineup. Howard transferred to South Melbourne the following season in search of greater opportunity, adding six games and a goal to his record in the red and white. Ultimately appearing as a fringe player at the elite level, he was unable to consolidate a regular senior spot at the Lake Oval and departed the league at the conclusion of the 1938 season.
