Stats
Bio
Born in the Channel Islands—a rare origin for a VFL footballer—Don Mills arrived at Hawthorn via the Clayton Football Club. Standing 182cm, he was a taller utility player for his era, capable of filling key posts but unable to cement a permanent position in the Mayblooms' lineup during a period of on-field struggle for the club. He played 15 senior games across two separate stints in 1929 and 1931, failing to register a goal, before his league career concluded. Tragically, Mills is best remembered for the circumstances of his death; after shifting to a life as a professional shark fisherman, he disappeared at sea in 1945 when his vessel, the Moonbi, vanished off the coast of Port Franklin during a storm.
