Bio
Recruited from Ringwood, Don Scott developed into one of the most fearsome and imposing ruckmen of the 1970s. While he was a capable mark and a reliable kick for goal, his game was defined less by technical ruck craft and more by his ferocious competitiveness and physical aggression. Scott thrived on confrontation, using his strength and intimidating presence to unsettle opponents and protect his midfielders, embodying the hard-nosed style of football that became synonymous with Hawthorn during his era.
Scott's leadership credentials were cemented when he assumed the captaincy, leading the Hawks to premiership victories in 1976 and 1978 to add to the flag he won as a player in 1971. A durable and resilient competitor, he became only the second player in club history to reach the 300-game milestone, retiring in 1981 as a triple premiership player. His legacy at Hawthorn was further immortalised off the field in 1996, when he played a central role in the "Operation Payback" campaign, famously rallying members to vote against a proposed merger with Melbourne to ensure the club's survival as a standalone entity.
