Bio
A Melbourne High School graduate and student at Toorak Teachers College, Don Stanley was recruited to South Melbourne after impressing club legend Bob Skilton while playing for Port Melbourne in the VFA. He broke into the senior lineup late in the 1964 season, managing four games for the Swans before his football journey was redirected by his teaching profession. Stanley's VFL career was effectively cut short when the Education Department posted him to the Wimmera, resulting in a unique clearance swap that saw him join Murtoa in exchange for future South Melbourne ruckman John Sudholz. Stanley went on to become a decorated country footballer, winning a Hampden League Best and Fairest with Terang, and dedicated his post-playing life to administration with School Sport Victoria.
