Bio
Recruited from Timboon in country Victoria, Don Whitford was a mid-sized utility who spent the majority of his VFL career with Fitzroy. Standing 182cm, he made his debut for the Lions in 1974 but battled to cement a permanent position in the senior side, often drifting in and out of the starting 22 over his five seasons at the Junction Oval. After a brief stint with Brunswick in the VFA, he was thrown a lifeline by Melbourne in 1979, yet faced similar challenges at the Demons where he was eventually dropped to the supplementary list before fighting his way back for a final handful of games. A honest journeyman who provided experienced depth for two clubs, Whitford departed the VFL to continue his footballing journey in the country with Glen Alvie and later North Shore in Sydney.
