Stats
Bio
Don Wilks was a reliable defender who became a fixture of the Hawthorn lineup during the tumultuous years of the Second World War. Recruited from VFA club Camberwell, he slotted immediately into the Hawks' defence, operating primarily as a back pocket or half-back flanker who provided stability behind the ball. He was a model of consistency during his brief VFL career, playing 51 games in just three seasons and rarely missing a match at a time when team lists were often in flux due to wartime service. After departing Glenferrie Oval, Wilks established a strong reputation in regional football, moving to the country to captain-coach Echuca to a premiership in 1946 before enjoying further coaching stints with Auburn and North Albury.
