Bio
Recruited from Coburg during the tumultuous years of the First World War, Doug Bennett was a Woodend-born forward who made an immediate impact in his brief time at VFL level. He arrived at Fitzroy for the 1917 season and enjoyed a dream start, booting two goals on debut against Carlton in Round 1. Standing 179cm, Bennett offered a capable target in attack but struggled to maintain his place in a formidable Maroons lineup that had claimed the premiership the previous year. He made just three further senior appearances without adding to his goal tally before dropping out of the side, his career standing as a short-lived cameo during the league's wartime era.
