Bio
A diminutive rover who found his greatest success in the VFA, Doug Dowling arrived at South Melbourne after starring in Williamstown's 1945 premiership side. Originally starting his journey in the Richmond reserves, Dowling crossed to the Seagulls where he quickly established himself as a dangerous goal-kicking on-baller. His time at the Lake Oval was fleeting, managing just four senior appearances and a solitary goal during the 1946 season before returning to Williamstown the following year. Back in familiar territory, he cemented his status as a VFA standout, booting 58 goals in 1947 and finishing runner-up in the club's best and fairest count before finishing his career at Oakleigh.
