Stats
Bio
Recruited from VFA club Yarraville where he was already a premiership player, Doug Fraser broke into a powerful Carlton lineup in 1910 and immediately looked at home as a goal-kicking follower. His promising start was overshadowed and abruptly ended by one of the most significant controversies in league history: the 1910 bribery scandal. Prior to the Semi Final against South Melbourne, Fraser was withdrawn from the side—along with teammates Alex Lang and Doug Gillespie—amidst allegations they had accepted payments to play poorly. While Gillespie was exonerated, Fraser and Lang were found guilty by the league and handed severe five-year suspensions. Fraser never returned to VFL football and passed away from influenza in 1919 at the age of 32.
