Bio
A decorated WAFL legend before he ever arrived at the Lake Oval, Doug Green was a mature-age recruit who answered a mid-season SOS from South Melbourne in 1980. Already a dual premiership player and Best and Fairest winner with East Fremantle, the veteran defender was lured out of semi-retirement from his Wheatbelt farm to bolster the Swans' backline. He brought immense experience and a classical half-back's composure to his brief VFL stint, showcasing the defensive reading of the play that had previously seen him captain the Western Australian state side. While his time in Victoria was a fleeting six-game cameo before returning to the land, Green remains royalty in the west as a member of the East Fremantle Team of the Century.
