Stats
Bio
Recruited from Brunswick in the VFA, Doug Johnson joined North Melbourne as a mature-age debutant already in his late twenties. He made a remarkable impact in his first season at Arden Street, polling seven Brownlow Medal votes in 1948 to prove he could match it with the VFL's best despite his light 66kg frame. While his tenure at the top level was short-lived with just 20 games over two years, Johnson's ability to immediately influence matches highlighted the rich talent pool available in the VFA during the post-war years.
