Bio
Recruited from Springvale, Doug Koop began his VFL journey with South Melbourne, showing flashes of potential as a versatile utility before departing just prior to the club's relocation to the Harbour City. Following a three-year stint in the SANFL with Woodville, he returned to Victoria to join North Melbourne, though he struggled to cement a regular spot in the senior 22 at Arden Street. Koop eventually found his niche after crossing to Melbourne in 1987, serving as a reliable swingman capable of plugging holes in defence or attack during the Demons' late-80s resurgence. Despite playing in semi-final victories in consecutive seasons, his career is often remembered for unfortunate timing; he was omitted from the side for both the 1987 and 1988 preliminary finals, denying him the opportunity to participate in the club's Grand Final appearance.
