Bio
Recruited from local side West Footscray, Doug Menzies was a wingman who played a sporadic role for the Bulldogs during the late 1930s. Unable to cement a permanent spot in the VFL lineup, he made a mid-season switch to Williamstown in 1939, a move that delivered immediate success. Menzies became a key contributor in the VFA, starring on the wing during the Seagulls' premiership victory over Brunswick in front of a massive crowd at the MCG later that year. His football prime was effectively cut short by the Second World War, where he served in the Royal Australian Navy, eventually returning for a brief cameo in 1945 before closing his career.
