Bio
Recruited from Eaglehawk in the Bendigo Football League, Doug Palmer arrived at Geelong during a golden era for the club and made an immediate impact as a versatile utility. Capable of playing as a centreman or on a half-back flank, he was renowned as a wet-weather specialist who could handle a greasy ball with composure. Palmer wasted no time establishing himself in the senior side, playing 21 games in his debut season and earning a place in the centre for the Cats' famous 1952 Premiership victory over Collingwood. He remained a key contributor the following year, featuring in the 1953 Grand Final loss to the Magpies, before leaving Kardinia Park after just three seasons to captain-coach Myrtleford in the Ovens & Murray League.
