Stats
Bio
Recruited from Sandringham, Doug Rayment was a stocky wingman standing just 165cm who carved out a respectable career with St Kilda during the struggling years of the 1930s. Despite giving away height to almost every opponent, he was a durable competitor who became a mainstay in the Saints' midfield, relying on his low centre of gravity and persistence to impact contests. He debuted in 1934 and provided consistent service to the club for seven seasons, becoming one of the few players of his era to raise the bat for a century of games in the red, white and black.
Rayment's time at the Junction Oval concluded following the 1940 season, after which he became one of several League players to cross into the VFA during its high-scoring "throw-pass" era. He joined Prahran in 1941 without a clearance, taking advantage of the Association's aggressive recruitment drive and relaxed transfer rules. His football journey was subsequently interrupted by the Second World War, during which he served in the Royal Australian Air Force.
